ประเทศมาเลเซียได้รับเอกราชจากอังกฤษเมื่อปี พ.ศ 2500 เมื่อครั้งก่อตั้งประเทศใช้ชื่อประเทศว่า “สหพันธรัฐมลายู” เมื่อครั้งก่อตั้งประเทศใช้ชื่อประเทศว่า “สหพันธรัฐมลายู ” ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2508 สิงคโปร์จึงได้แยกตัวออกไปเป็นประเทศสิงคโปร์
